A north-facing entry is tough to live with in northern climates. That's where the wind comes from and the sun never shines. Slippery conditions underfoot, and blasts of cold air rushing into the living room everytime the door opened was annoying, dangerous, and an energy waster.
Two doors to choose from was confusing for visitors, and without cover they stood out in the rain or snow. I had just enough room between front door and overhead garage door to squeeze in a timber frame vestibule fitting to the rustic log home.
Built to last from cedar, the space transitions easily from summer to winter by swapping out full screens with tempered glass panels. A tile floor takes the abuse, and there's plenty of room to remove boots and lay down packages.
