Storefront Makeover

Downtown Dodgeville was once a knock-out impressive couple blocks of stores of all sorts, including several banks, an opera house, and a movie theatre.  Today, about half of the historic storefronts remain, but alas not the home of Potterton-Rule, a generations-old family insurance and real estate firm.  The building was remodeled in the 1960's to be then-modern and sleek, with polished aluminum trim and red slabs of granite.

Popping brick and sagging parts have prompted the owners to undertake a top-to-bottom overhaul, in an affordable while yet historic-looking vein.  I started with 3 quick colored-marker on sketch paper ideas overlaid on a photograph.  Swatches of material followed, including brick color and shapely cornice in fiberglass.

Refined drawings A, B, and C show small variations in detail and competing color schemes.  Stay tuned for an "after" photo.
