Many homes have front doors nowhere near where people park. In the course of extensive remodeling, my clients and I had the chance to relocate the front door to the side, adjacent to a gravel parking pad.
I extended the main gable roof for cover, and added a gable to the rear for a screen porch. A new deck joins the two outdoor spaces, and features a nearly-invisible cable railing. Exposed wood beam, rafters, and board sheathing add loads of character and warmth to the vaulted ceiling. I like the bold red and white color scheme the owners selected.
