Victorian

This prominent home in Mineral Point is typical of many of its era, with spacious rooms but a small kitchen.  It also lacked a garage.  Architectural details were hidden behind 1960's era siding.

My design called for a detached garage with a courtyard between it and a new kitchen/breakfast room.  The garage looks like a turn-of-the-century carriage house, with details matched to the house.  Above is a complete guest suite including kitchenette & bath.  Dormers allow extra room and light into the sloped ceiling space.

The partially exposed basement has a lap pool, with ground level windows providing daylight.

The one story kitchen addition projects from the original back wall of the house.  A side porch is just steps away from the garage door.  The shed roofs on either side of the gable roof mimic an existing porch on the original house (not shown).  Inside is a breakfast room with vaulted ceiling and skylights.

Extensive landscaping was done to create level areas and a pond in the sloping backyard.  A Japanese inspired tea house, arched bridge and garden shed create magical images.
