This historic home in Mineral Point had suffered an ill-conceived remodel several decades ago. The front porch was lost and a 1-car garage occupied the front room and jutted out toward the street.
The owners required an attached 2-car garage and main level guest room with bath. My design solution includes a narrow bedroom addition, placed so that its roof line skirted past two existing windows, followed by a wider garage. With a stone veneer foundation, matching siding, and prominent trim boards, the garage takes on the look of a venerable carriage house.
New front porch posts in the Italianate style were modeled after those found on the kitchen ell of the Gundry House, Mineral Point's house museum.
Built by Glen Reger.
