Exterior Facelift

Here is a classic Cinderella story set in Platteville. The before photos show a rather dowdy house, devoid of character. The owners wanted to do an exterior makeover, with minimal disruption to the interior. The slightly off-center door posed a potential problem in bringing order to the front elevation.
 
My solution embraced the asymmetry, with a band of casement windows to the left of a new Arts & Crafts style entry canopy. Strong brackets, window boxes, cement board lap siding, and a shingled gable all contribute to the cottage look.

Passersby remark that they’d never really noticed the house before, and now it’s a favorite in the neighborhood.
