Arts & Crafts Deck

A really nice foursquare home in Richland Center was cut off from it's backyard.  The door off the basement stairs, a few steps down from the kitchen had been sealed shut for years!  My clients and I looked at many options to bring the outdoors closer and arrived at this economical solution.  While not ideal for carrying out food & drink, a deck that straddles the space between main floor and walkout basement avoided the platform-on-stilts look, and brought the eye closer to the ground plane and lovely garden.

I really like the partial wall, with railing above.  It feels good, and along with the stone piers, ties in well with the massing of the house.  The Art Deco style railing was custom made by a local artisan.
