This fine Craftsman near downtown Dodgeville had distinctive millwork in every room but the kitchen. This remodel brought back the style with oak frame & panel cabinetry. An efficient floor plan allows the cook ready access to the sink, stove, and refrigerator while directing family traffic along the pantry-lined passageway. Pendant light fixtures and a bookcase adjacent to the breakfast table cozy up the space and encourage lingering.
The bathroom was also in need of a sympathetic remodel. As the only full bathroom in the house, this space had to accommodate all family members on busy mornings. The compartmentalized arrangement of the existing bath was retained but the cramped space eased by eliminating a boxy linen closet and plumbing chase.
A 5’ plastic modular tub/shower unit was exchanged for a wider 6’ tub and tiled walls with built-in niches. At 9” deep, the new linen cabinet is easier to access, and lends a furniture quality to the room. New vanity cabinetry is only 16” deep, but with the selection of vessel sinks and wall mounted fittings, made for a workable solution that allowed the counter to stretch from wall to wall.
